Reports
Vice President’s Report: Buddy Bauer workshop went great. Received a lot of positive feedback. No total because Nicole Sauvageau had deposit slip/box. Technical difficulties were resolved at the workshop by Ginger. Interpreters were provided per the motion at the previous meeting.
President’s Report: Chris Groom’s workshop had a total of 28 participants. There were two interpreters provided, Ariane Leverett and Casey Sheffield. The workshop went wonderfully. Ariane and Chris had a dinner the night before the workshop and discussed the revolt of Houston interpreters, their demand for a pay raise and how they got it. Ariane and Casey were exhausted by the end of the workshop. There were participants from Waco and San Antonio. The Professional Development Committee’s contact with SARID and TSID effected the workshop turnout positively.
Editor’s Report: Nicole Sauvageau produced the most recent newsletter. It looked nice. Some people are not receiving newsletters.
TSID Representative’s Report: Rep Nicole Sauvageau was not in attendance, therefore, there is no report. Nicole sent out an email giving information about how to access the TSID meeting via conference call.
Parliamentarian’s Report: Discussed the discrepancy in AID’s fiscal year. The year ends in May and begins in July. Where is June?
Treasurer’s Report: We passed around revenue and expenditure document. The report reflects that the year starts in June and ends in May. Total deposits-$7,682.98. Expenditures-$7,468.08. Balance- $3,604.45. Discrepancy-$88.93. Bank statement shows balance higher than report. Treasurer Elect needs to go to Wells Fargo. Deborah handed over deposit slip and expenditure report from bank in regards to workshops. Workshop total Revenue-$2,431.59. There is a possible discrepancy in Ariane Leverett’s Word Wars workshop. Sarah thinks it is a bank error. Thank you said to Sarah for serving as Treasurer. She took the position mid year as did Naomi, our Secretary. Ariane reminded us to not forget the instructions for online banking for the incumbent treasurer. That has already been done and put in the beautiful new treasurer’s book.
President Ariane Leverett spoke and said thank you to the board for networking, professional and personal enrichment. She went down a list of all of the things AID had accomplished this past year. We had the opportunity to meet new interpreters, participate in Deaf events, wrote an end of year report and submitted it to TSID. We produced two newsletters, participated in TSID 42nd birthday/recipe party. We got an AID banner and made an info booklet for the first ever Deaf and HH Festival, to which we will be invited every year from now on. We provided three workshops. The Word Wars workshop was a mini workshop provided voluntarily by Ariane Leverett, who had no experience or training in teaching. The workshop cost $5.00, and provided CEU’s for all. Ariane received incredible workshop feedback. She cannot wait to do another mini workshop and recruit other presenters to impart their knowledge no matter how much or little. Buddy Bauer workshop was great. Having out of town presenter, Chris Grooms, was exciting. There are 48 members this year. Membership is up from 33 members last year to 48 this year. What an amazing membership jump. AID needs to continue to grow and support Austin interpreters. We provided scholarships for the first time ever. The PO Box has been changed permanently to the 6th & Guadalupe location. Website is up, running, and currently advertising all entities workshops. There are job postings and membership applications. It took a while, but it is fully functional. Student Committee participation increased. We have many student members. This is our 2nd or 3rd year as a chapter in good standing. AID is the Austin TSID affiliate chapter. To be a chapter in good standing we must be compliant by submitting our bylaws, constitution, and end of year report. Our end of year balance shows us in the black. Hopefully AID will continue to spend wisely. Sarah said our profit, not including the discrepancy was $188.00. There is a summer provisional of $200.00.
Scholarship winners were selected. One professional member, Daisy Moore, and one student member, Trey McKnight. The article prompt was, “Why I want to be an interpreter and who influenced my decision?”
